Site Surveying

Group Assignment

For this assignment, groups of 4 members have to go to the site which is the Taylor's open air car park at Block E and do a site surveying. By using and automatic level, levelling staff and a tripod, we are able to get the back-sight, intermediate sight and foresight by using height of collimation method and rise & fall method.

Reflection
Through this assignment, I learn to work together with my group effectively since this assignment is not something that can be done alone. I also enjoy this assignment because it is hands-on fieldwork which teaches us how to handle the equipments. I also learn to systematically take down data of the readings obtained.

                                                       

Building Services 1

Assignment 1
For this assignment we have to produce a report and come up with a power point presentation on the given topic. The topic we got is Telecommunication Services in High Rise Buildings. The content of this assignment must consist of introduction, installation, application, system, advantages & disadvantages, case study, recommendations and conclusion.

Reflection
From this assignment, I learn about the services that serves a building. I also learn to work as a group to produce a report and presentation. Apart from that I have learn to do in-depth research. Overall I enjoy this module because I can relate it to building construction and can be used in the future.

                                                     

Construction Technology 2

Assignment 1
This assignment is an individual assignment that requires us to draw a total of 20 drawings that hopefully helps us understand a bit more about building construction. This assignment constitutes 10% of the total assessment.

Reflection
From this assignment I am able to understand better the details of the components of a building. I also can now better picture the various elements involved in construction and its uses.
           
                                                  


Assignment 2
In this assignment, we are required to form a group of 5 members and come up with a video of any construction process such as piling. Initially we were required to go to a construction site to record our own video. However, due to safety reasons we were allowed to take several raw videos from YouTube and edit them into a complete informational video.

Reflection
From this assignment, I now better understand the procedures involved in construction as well as the materials used. I also learn to communicate with group members on what topic to select for the video. I really enjoy this module as I find that it is very practical and is useful for my future.
                                           
                                                  

Measurement 2

Assignment 1
For this assignment, we are required to measure the ceiling finishes of a bungalow in groups of 2. We are to produce the dimension sheet, taking off list and bill of quantities. We were given 3 hours to complete the assignment. We split the job into external ceiling finishes and internal ceiling finishes.


Reflection
From this assignment I learn that teamwork and communication is important. I also learn that reading and understanding the drawings is crucial and must be done as soon as possible otherwise there won't be enough time for the calculations and corrections if any. Through this, I also learn to be cautious when doing the calculations and descriptions as to not make any mistakes that will require major corrections later on.

                                                 




Assignment 2
For this assignment, we are required to form a group of 6 or 7 and measure the wall, wall finishes and floor finishes of a bungalow. We are to produce dimension sheet, taking off list and bill of quantities for all the components. We were given well over 2 weeks to complete the assignment.


Reflection

From this assignment I again learn that communication between group members is important. There are times when we were not sure about something we would ask each other for the solution. Understanding the drawings is also as important when doing measurements. Time management is also crucial when doing the assignment because if the measurements are rushed, mistakes are bound to happen.
